They have been recombined or lovingly restored to create a harmonious over- all look that emphasizes character over showmanship. Art as a part of life Art plays a central role in this villa. Over the years, Elle Macpherson has amassed an impressive collection, which in- cludes works by Andy Warhol, Jean- Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Lucian Freud, and Damien Hirst. Rather than displaying them like in a museum, how- ever, she naturally integrates her art- works into everyday life. Paintings and sculptures are hung based on mood and harmony rather than hierarchy or mar- ket value, whether in the kitchen, living room, or private retreat. Her passion for contemporary art began during her early years in New York, and she continues to collect pieces by her contemporaries to this day. To her, art reflects the times and offers a way to en- gage more consciously with life. Color with character While many rooms are intentionally kept soft and almost monochromatic, Elle Macpherson adds vibrant accents in just the right places: deep turquoise in her sons’ lounge, bright orange in the dining room, and soft celadon green in the me- For Elle Macpherson, art is part of her home – just as self- evident as her relaxed lifestyle. “For me, art is a mirror of time.”VON POLL REAL ESTATE | 29 Home story – Elle Macpherson dia room. Life in balance As the founder of the successful Australia-based well- ness brand WelleCo, which stands for high-quality beauty elixirs and nutritional supplements that can support wellness from within, Elle Macpherson embodies the concept of healthy living lifestyle in both appear- ance and philosophy. Her home reflects this as well, offering more than just the trappings of a spa retreat. The open kitchen, sunroom bathed in light, saltwater pool, and garden yoga platform all contribute to an atmosphere of relaxation and renewal. This isn't about asceticism – it's about balance. Rather than perfection, the idea of playful easiness with style dom- inates: a ping-pong table in the foyer, a foosball table by the breakfast nook, re- laxed seating areas, and flexible living spaces demonstrate that this is a house made for real life in all its forms. Roots and renewal Though Elle Macpherson has called many places home over the years, her Coral Gables house is also influenced by her origins: the Australian love of na- ture, her sons' French heritage, and her own British clarity shaped by years in London. It's a place that bridges the past and the present without drama but with a strong sense of what really matters. Perhaps the most beautiful thing about this home is that it isn’t just the resi- dence of a style icon, but of a woman who knows what she wants. She deliber- ately chooses to blend beauty, practical- ity, and personality – with heart, reason, and remarkably effortless elegance. The French manufacturer combines traditional craftsmanship with avant-garde visions to produce objects that are regarded around the world as icons of sophisticated design. F or more than two centuries, Baccarat has stood for elegant lines, splendid staging and excellence in craftsmanship – and yet the tra- ditional manufacturer has never rested on its royal laurels. Rather, the firm regards itself as the de- signer of a new aesthetic, one in which crystal not only shines, but also conveys meaning. Once a purveyor to the monarchy, the company is now a driving force be- hind modern design: from iconic glasses to spectacular light sculptures in hotels, residences and art installa- tions all around the globe. This ability to transform itself makes Baccarat more than just a brand: it’s a cultural phenomenon that uniquely combines craftsmanship, innovation and style. A dazzling development The success story began in the town of Baccarat in the Lorraine region back in 1764, when Bishop Louis Joseph de Montmorency Laval received permis- sion from King Louis XV of France to build a glassworks. What started as a small workshop quickly grew into a leading manufacturer of glass of ex- ceptional purity. The introduction of the first crystal furnace in 1816 marked the dawn of high-quality lead crystal production – a milestone in clarity, bril- liance and precision. Baccarat received its first royal commission as far back as 1823, and Charles X named the compa- ny the “Cristallerie Royale de Baccarat”. The international breakthrough fol- lowed after the Paris World Exhibition in 1855, where Baccarat was awarded its first gold medal – a great honour for French arts and crafts. Manufacturing magic At Baccarat, artistry, precision and an understanding of materials all converge in the manufacturing process – in- An iconic high- light: Baccarat chandeliers combine masterful craftsmanship with avant- garde design. For over 250 years, the name of the French firm has been syn- onymous with crystal artistry of the highest level.36 | VON POLL IMMOBILIEN spired by the interplay of the four ele- ments: fire, water, air and earth. Around 50 specialised artisans work under one roof: glassblowers, grinders, engravers and mould makers create each object with the utmost care. Many of them have received awards for their skills: around a dozen hold the honorary title of “Meilleur Ouvrier de France”, the best craftsman in their field, while others are members of the French Academy of Arts and Literature. The extent to which this mastery of design is manifested is demonstrated by the famous Harcourt glass (since 1841): with its hexagonal base, clear cut facets and architectur- al presence, it is viewed as an icon of French tableware – and is still used in the Élysée Palace today. Zénith and the art of light At Baccarat, light is much more than mere illumina- tion: it is a creative means of expression that charges rooms with emotion and shapes their architecture. This is particularly evident in the iconic Zénith chan- delier, reinterpreted by Philippe Starck a good 20 years ago: made of smoky black crystal, it deliberately breaks with classic transparency and yet still remains unmis- takably Baccarat. Long before this expressive vision of design, Baccarat was already creating rooms with luminous masterpiec- es: from mirrored table lamps and sparkling sculptures to magnificent chandeliers, which can still be admired Precision in every detail: from glass blowing to fine engraving, each piece is pains- takingly crafted by hand.VON POLL REAL ESTATE | 37 today in the Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul. Baccarat lighting creates a glamourous atmosphere at the Hô- tel de Paris in Monte Carlo, too. Design stores such as the MoMA Design Store in New York also stock selected pieces from the manufacturer – a sign of its interna- tional presence. Design in a new dimension Even in the 21st century, Baccarat con- tinues to reinvent itself, for example with the legendary Masséna bar and tableware collection, whose geometri- cally cut glass surfaces refract light in spectacular ways. Whether clear, tinted or mirrored, each item reflects a cre- ative vision that harmoniously blends aesthetics and craftsmanship. Design collaborations with personalities such as Virgil Abloh and Philippe Starck also demonstrate how versatile crystal can be – ranging from high fashion to interi- or art and lighting architecture. One constant remains: the vision of not just designing, but defining. At Bacca- rat, glass art becomes an expression of stylish living: a luminous statement that evokes memories, enhances rooms and radiates eternal elegance.
